Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor opens up on ‘tough year’ after husband’s hidden illness

Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor has opened up about the “tough” year she and her husband have endured, as well as their plans to “seize 2024”.

Sally Dynevor of Coronation Street has disclosed that her husband had a mysterious illness, leading to the cancellation of their planned celebration of her 60th birthday.

“In an episode of her How To Be 60 podcast, she told Kaye Adams, ‘I don’t want to go into too much detail about this, but I’ve had quite a tough year,” acknowledging that her husband Tim has been extremely “poorly”.

He will be alright, but… we had a lot of plans that we couldn’t fulfil, so we’re going to take advantage of 2024 now,” the soap opera star said.

“You always think you’re gonna live forever and be healthy forever and suddenly these blips in our lives happen and you start thinking, ‘What do I wanna do?’”

Her three children, Phoebe, Sam and Hattie, are all grown up now, with youngest Hattie turning 18 last year and Sally’s now determined to enjoy her freedom.

She excitedly told Kaye that she and her spouse had been “writing lists” of everything they want to do, including seeing the world.

She considers herself to be 59 and plans to celebrate her 60th birthday again next year because her husband’s illness rendered it a “washout” for her.

Recalling that a journalist who had taken a year off to tour the world had inspired her and dubbed it “the best thing she’d ever done,” Sally hurried back to Tim to urge them to follow suit.

“I told him, ‘We should pack our jobs in, take the kids out of school and travel the world in a camper van!’” she said, adding that she regretted not following through on one of her “life’s regrets.”

Growing older, I find myself saying things like, “Sod it!” more and more. “Let’s just go!” she cried out.

Sally also talked about the difficult period she went through after learning she had breast cancer at the age of 46.

The actress shares the same name as both her fictitious Corrie character and her on-screen spouse, Tim, who is played by Joe Duttine.

Many fans may recall that Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer around the same time her character had the same diagnosis.

She exclaimed that she “couldn’t quite believe” the way that the two Sallys had “merged together” and fainted in the doctor’s office upon hearing the terrifying news.

“I collapsed on the floor and then I woke up and said ‘I think you’re mixing me up with my character!’” she recalled.

“If it wasn’t for doing the story in the show, I wouldn’t have thought that could ever happen to me… I was so young!” the soap opera star said, revealing that the plot made her check her bosom.

She also said that the first doctor she visited “sent her for a biopsy, but he didn’t tell me that it was cancer when he felt it.”
