Coronation Street’s Bill Roache has assured fans since the coronavirus pandemic that the soap will not go off the air. The star – who plays Ken Barlow – told Good Morning Britain that after Corrie boIt was announced that the soap would only be aired three days a week because of government filming guidelines.
Speaking with his daughter, Verity, Bill said to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: “I’m gathered we’ve had, I think quite a while. They ration it to three times a week because it was going out six times a week, so I think we’ve got only two months.
It was announced that the soap would only be aired three days a week because of government filming guidelines. Bill says the producers should have an action plan to ensure that Corrie fans will still have their fix even if the episodes run out.
He said: “We have 60 years to draw on, so I don’t think we’ll go off-air, even when they’re running out! “There is much for them to show and do. But I think we’ve got about four months in all, or maybe three more, I’m not quite sure.
Last week, Jennie McAlpine and Beverley Callard revealed how they’re adjusting to the new situation. Jennie, who plays Fiz Brown in the soap, told Radio 5 Live, “I keep putting it on at half-eight, but then I remember, ‘Oh no, Corrie isn’t on.’
“They’ve limited our Corrie output now, and there’s just three of them instead of six of them,” she continued, “I know people may be missing those three episodes, so at least that means we’ve got a bit more time.
“I know our bosses are working really hard every day to assess the situation.” Beverley, who plays Liz McDonald, then chimed in, “And they’re panicking like they’re mad, aren’t they? But, of course, you can’t do that.
“And if it ends and we run out of episodes, the writers will go mad, and they’ll be excited to create new storylines and all that. “And we have a huge team of authors, and they are going to keep it going,” she added.
Their comments come after co-star Andy Whyment said that Coronation Street would go off the air until it could resume filming by June. Speaking at the United Podcast, Kirk Sutherland’s actor said, “I think we’ve got in the can until the beginning of July.
“And, hopefully, we’ll get to be back by the middle of June with a little bit of luck, or it’s going to go off the air. “We cut down from six episodes a week to three episodes a week, obviously to live, but hopefully we’ll get back.
