Coronation Street: who is leaving, returning to and joining the soap?

Leaving

Ken Barlow (William Roache)

In the huge 10,000th episode of Coronation Street, trusty Ken Barlow decided that he wanted to leave the street and head out to new pastures–well, a retirement home in manchester's retirement home. While fitting in with Claudia Colby, fans of Corrie will still see Our Ken from time to time as new rivals, and new friendships are formed.

Paula Martin (Stirling Gallacher)

Although not generally a regular character, in the coming months following the casting of Gallacher in Casualty as copper Ffion Morgan, wife to paramedic Jan Jenning, viewers will see less of the lawyer on the cobbles. Since 2018, the former Doctors and The Office star has been a recurring presence in Corrie and has flings with both Sophie Webster and Tracy Barlow. She's already filming on the medical drama of the BBC, appearing from late spring, but it doesn't necessarily mean Paula's end, who ranks as one of the semi-regulars as and when storylines dictate.

Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon)

Fallon announced in May that she would be going to quit and will leave Sarah Platt's troubled daughter in 2020 after five years in the role.
During Bethany's hard-hitting abuse plot, in which the vulnerable teen was groomed by the mysterious older boyfriend Nathan Curtis and pushed into a web of sexual exploitation, she won countless plaudits for her performance.
The star announced she had shot her final scenes in late January, and her departure scene is set to revolve around her tragic relationship with grieving widow Daniel Osbourne.

Returning

Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden)

Hebden's major heart attack in 2017 forced a prolonged period of leave from the regular cast as he recovered. Still, he has been back as nosy Norris a few times since June 2019, when he returned to oversee the sale of his house to the Bailey family, and the favorite Mr. Cole is set to make an appearance again around March 2020, according to reports.

Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu)

The ex Seb Franklin, who was caught up in the storyline of human trafficking in 2019, joins the regular cast from mid-February. Viewers saw her come back a few months briefly to catch up with her stranged fella, now dating barmaid Emma Brooker. Will she walk back into a triangle of love?

Shona Platt (Julia Goulding)

The wife of David Platt is taking a break while Goulding is going on maternity leave, but the actress has reassured fans that she won't be gone for long and will be back with a new contract signed recently. Shona is recovering from her injuries-including amnesia-in, a specialist medical unit in Leeds after being shot during the Christmas Day siege.

Joining

Danny (Dylan Brady)

Cheeky Chappy Danny arrived at Cobbles in mid-February 2020 and is an old pal of Ed Bailey's. But he's also hiding a secret love triangle with Ed's boy, James Bailey – who hasn't told his dad he's gay yet.

Des (John Henshaw)

Veteran actor Henshaw makes a cameo in Corrie's 10,000 episode, aired on Friday, February 7th, as Des, the bus driver who transports a gang of locals to the sunny Blackpool to disperse former resident Dennis Tanner's ashes. In a nod to the illustrious past of the soap, legends such as Dennis ' widow Rita Tanner and old friend Ken Barlow, along with long-servers Audrey Roberts and Gail Platt, gather for the day out. Still, there are significant consequences for the future as one local decides it's time to leave town… Henshaw is best known for his roles in Early Doors, Born and Bred, and The Royle Family.
