Coronation Street has cut back on episodes after being forced to postpone filming in order to adhere to social distance guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic. Coronation Street bosses are anxious for the ITV soap to get up and running again as bosses are “panicking like crazy.” The long-running series was forced to edit its schedule and cut back on broadcasting in the coronavirus pandemic after the filming was suspended.
The much-loved soap aired six days a week before the worldwide epidemic, and now it’s three times a week. In a radio interview this week, Corrie star Beverley Callard, who plays Liz McDonald, said the soap bosses were worried that the episodes are running out-which would mean that the Weatherfield-based show would no longer be on the air. Beverley, 63, provided the inside details alongside her co-star Jennie McAlpine, during an appearance on Radio 5 Live. Jennie, best known for her role as Fiz Brown, said: “I keep putting it on at half-eight, but then I think, ‘Oh no, Corrie’s not on.’ They’ve now limited our Corrie output currently, so there’s just three on instead of six.” Jennie, 36, added: “I know people would miss those three episodes, but at least it means we’ve got a little bit longer.
“I know our bosses are trying very hard every day to evaluate the situation.” Beverley added, “And they’re panicking like they’re mad, aren’t they? But, of course, you can’t do that.
“And if everything comes to an end because we run out of episodes, the writers are going mad; they’re going to be excited to make new storylines and everything.” Because we have a large team of writers, and they’re trying to keep everything going, “she added. On March 22, Coronation Street and Emmerdale confirmed that they were axing filming soaps.
A statement from the ITV spokesperson explained: “ITV has sadly decided to suspend production of the soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale with effect from Monday, March 23rd.
“We have been trying our best to continue filming, while adhering to the Government’s new health guidelines, to ensure that both episodes of soaps are broadcast on ITV until at least early summer.” However, the health and well-being of the production teams, the actors, the crew, and their families is of paramount importance to us, and we now believe like the time has come to stop filming. “We would like to thank our viewers for their support and hope that they will continue to watch all soaps in the coming months.” On Corrie’s official Twitter account, they added, “We’ll always be on the air next week as usual, except Friday. We’ll be on the air three times a week from the 30th.”
