Actress Joan Savage of Dad’s Army and Coronation Street passed away earlier this month at the age of 89. Condolences have been pouring in for her.
Actress Joan Savage, who starred in Dad’s Army and Coronation Street, passed away at the age of 89. The cause of death is not yet known.
“Mum used to say, ‘I’d like to go with my tap shoes on,’ so the last few years have been extremely difficult for her and us as a family,” Kelly Reynolds, her daughter, told the Blackpool Gazette.’
“Hopefully, she’s getting back together with her fellow celebrities and putting on a show up there!”
She played dancer Celeste Pickersgill in the ITV soap opera back in 2000 as part of her varied 60-year career.
She was paired with Malcolm Hebden’s character, Norris Cole, for a competition held at the Tower Ballroom during her brief stay.
She starred in Dad’s Army and The Arthur Haynes Show on TV before joining the Cobbles.
She also toured as the lead in a George and Alfred Black revue titled Music and Madness, and she was cast in Mr. Ronnie Taylor’s Variety Fanfare on BBC Radio.
She married actor Ken Morris in Blackpool in 1955 after meeting him during the tour.
Later, the two formed a duo and sang several songs together, including I Got Rhythm and Side By Side.
They performed as a double act in several TV commercials and programs, such as The Black and White Minstrel Show and The Jack Jackson Show.
After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Ken had a brief period of illness before passing away on July 3, 1968. She wed Bryan, her second husband, four years later.
With her unique blend of humor and impressions, Oan proceeded to pursue a solo career, performing in cabaret, pantomimes, summer productions, and cruise ships.
She also recorded renditions of Hello Happiness Goodbye Blues, Love Letters in the Sand, and Norah Malone.
Joan’s father, the late comedian Norman Savage, gave her a taste of stardom at a very young age when he performed in Northern clubs.
She later joined the renowned Blackpool Tower Circus and Blackpool Children’s Tower Ballet at the age of 12.
On social media, the late on-screen and stage star has received an abundance of tributes.
“Everyone at the BMHS was saddened to learn of the recent passing of variety, radio, television, and musical star Joan Savage,” the British Music Hall Society stated in their statement.
