Home and Away’s Selina star Tempany Deckert – 25 years after soap exit and ‘dodging bullet’

Tempany Deckert was a huge hit as Selina Cook on Home and Away – now 25 years later, she’s revealed the real reason she stepped away from the show despite her success

Tempany Deckert, a star of Home and Away, said she doesn’t regret leaving the soap opera.

Selina Cook’s character, Tempany, left the show 25 years ago to concentrate on parenting.

Teenage tearaway Selina briefly resided with Irene (Lynne McGranger). Irene took her under her wing even though she was never formally her foster child. When Selina was living with Irene, she had sex with her son Damian (Matt Doran). She became pregnant but lost the child later.

Many more noteworthy events occurred during Tempany’s stay on the show, such as her near-death experience after being stung by a bee and her kidnapping by Saul Bennett.

When the character left the program in 2000, she eventually became engaged to Steven, and the two were still together. Since leaving the program, Tempany has transitioned into writing Young Adult novels.

She announced her intention to leave Home and Away to the Daily Telegraph, saying: Being so renowned so quickly came as a complete shock.

“I expected it to feel wonderful and relieving, but it was actually very unsettling,” the subject said.

Following her success in Home And Away, Tempany tried her luck at Hollywood fame, but it wasn’t for her and she discovered she was auditioning for roles she didn’t think she was qualified for.

She put more of her attention towards parenting her two children with American director Brian Donovan. She also started writing, which she finds to be very enjoyable.

According to her, quitting acting was like “dodging a bullet” for her. I don’t think I would have gotten married and had kids, said Tempany. I feel like I somewhat escaped a bullet.

Although Tempany has occasionally taken up acting parts, she has largely relished the opportunity to raise her children while writing 18 YA books.

Tempany maintains contact with Isla Fisher because she respects her. She says: ‘She’s really good at keeping old friendships while also mixing with big Hollywood. Her birthday celebrations are definitely unique!

Isla previously celebrated National Redhead Day by posting pictures of herself with two of her stunt doubles.

On a movie set, the Australian beauty posed with her two stunt doubles while donning identical green jumpers and trousers.

The two women pictured with Isla could have been her sisters, despite the fact that stunt doubles are supposed to resemble the actor they are posing as.

The 45 year old captioned the post shared on her Instagram page on Saturday 6 November 2021: “Happy National Redhead Day from me and my two sisters”.

People immediately remarked on how gorgeous the three actors seemed. Chelsea Handler, a fellow actor, commented: “Are you kidding me with this photo? Redheads everywhere, band together.

Someone else wrote: “All 3 of you are so pretty!”, as a third penned: “Whoa just whoa, you girls are just divine.”

Isla moved back to her home country with her husband Sacha Baron-Cohen, 50, in 2020 from Los Angeles. The pair wed in 2010 and share three children together.

Speaking about how “safe” she feels in Australia, Isla told Stellar magazine: “I just feel so safe, I suppose the word is cosy, when I’m in Australia. It’s where I grew up.”
