Kieran Baldivis of Home and Away will leave Summer Bay next week because the tension between him and Alf Stewart has grown too much for them to bear.
Since Kieran (Rick Donald) arrived in the Bay hoping to reconcile with his mother Martha Stewart (Belinda Giblin), it’s been clear that his family reunion wouldn’t be easy – and Alf (Ray Meagher) has made it clear that he’s not happy to see Kieran back after he held his mother hostage earlier this year.
Kieran has been trying to get into everyone’s good graces since Martha consented to let her son stay at Summer Bay House. In scenes that will appear in the UK next week, he returns home heavy with takeout teas and coffees for the entire family in an attempt to please everyone.
While Martha and Kieran’s half-sister, Roo Stewart (Georgie Parker), are grateful for his efforts, Alf grumbles and makes up a reason to go to the bait store.
Kieran realises that Alf will never really embrace him and determines that the situation must be handled. He tells Alf that they must sit down together and figure out what to do next.
After some back-and-forth, Kieran says they need to be honest about the issue — having him in the house isn’t working, and Alf agrees.
Kieran subsequently informs the family that he returned to Summer Bay to reconnect with his mother, and that the last thing he wants to do is jeopardize her connections with the rest of the family, thus he has decided to leave once more.
Concerned about his whereabouts, Martha allows Kieran to live into her Merimbula house and take care of it. Kieran later says his goodbyes and departs from the Bay for the last time.
After leaving Kieran off at the train station, Roo expresses her real displeasure with her parents, claiming that they have abandoned him.
Alf and Martha come to the conclusion that Kieran was providing Roo with a loving purpose, and that now that he is gone, she may be seeking for something to focus on.
Martha informs Roo that she has an announcement to make after some consideration, and Roo is interested.
