Home and Away star Kyle Shilling opens up over alopecia diagnosis

Actor Kyle Shilling of Home and Away has disclosed that he was given an alopecia diagnosis.

The Australian soap opera star Shilling, who portrays Mali Hudson, disclosed that he only recently discovered he was experiencing hair loss. Though it usually affects the crown of the head, it can also impact the facial hair.

“For all those Home and Away fans complaining about my beard line…. Not too long ago I was diagnosed with alopecia on the beard region, mainly my neck,” Shilling said in an Instagram Story that has already expired.

Stress can contribute to alopecia, a disorder that causes hair loss. The makeup artists at Home and Away try their hardest to hide my newfound “insecurity.” It will ultimately grow back, but for now, it is what it is.

“I’m not asking for sympathy as it could be a lot worse but I’m simply shedding light on alopecia so people have an understanding about it.”

“I’ve received an overwhelming amount of messages because of my recent story about alopecia,” he added in a follow-up. The majority come from those who had a worse experience than you. Much love to all of you; keep moving forwards.

This serves as a reminder to refrain from making comments on someone’s appearance in public as you never know why they may look the way they do. Before you judgement, consider.”

Shilling has stated that the plot point of Mali becoming angry upon discovering Rose works as a police officer was crucial for representation since the role was cast in December of last year.

“It’s an example of what it can be like here in Australia with the Indigenous community – there’s a lot of police brutality, so it’s a really important thing to show on screen.”
