Logan (Harley Bonner) and Mackenzie (Emily Weir) are doing well after a rocky start when he attempted to move in only to be blocked by Bella (Courtney Miller), who made the situation tough for both of them. When Logan receives a text, he hastily responds that he needs to go for a while, leading Mackenzie to fear there is an emergency at work.
He hears a voice screaming his name and sees a familiar face from behind one of the trunks as he approaches hesitantly through the trees from the Surf Club — it’s Neve (Sophie Bloom), his old flame with whom he had lost contact after she absconded from the army. His disbelief is palpable, as he had assumed she was dead owing to her complete lack of communication.
Logan inquires about her whereabouts. Neve claims she had to go underground for years since she wouldn’t have been able to return to the country if she had been labelled a deserter. She spent some time in Europe before returning to Australia, but she was obliged to keep roaming. Logan believes her storey because of her heavy rucksack and tough demeanour.
Neve tells Logan she’s here to make up for missed time and kisses him when he wonders why she’s here. Logan is astonished and unable to react, but sadly, Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) is strolling by when she notices the two on the dock together. She rushes inside, stunned and enraged, to inform Dean (Patrick O’Connor) that Logan is outside kissing someone who isn’t Mackenzie.
Ziggy wants to make sure Mackenzie learns the truth after being misled by her own ex-husband, Brody (Jackson Heywood), so a few minutes later Logan and Neve are interrupted by Dean, who claims he needs to talk. Logan wonders if it can be postponed, but Dean is certain.
He pulls Logan aside and tells him he needs to inform Mackenzie about what occurred. Logan is apprehensive, but Dean vows he’ll tell her if he doesn’t tell her himself…
