For this week’s Australian episodes, Home and Away released a brand new teaser trailer, showing Dean making a huge move as he tries not to lose Jai. Is he really going to kidnap his own son?
Dean is starting to feel a bit like he is only going to play half a part in the life of his son. Amber has forbidden him to tell his mom about Jai, meaning that for the rest of his life, he faces the prospect of having to lie to her.
Francesca, Amber’s own mum, is a complete nightmare to make matters worse, yet Amber has no problems with her being in the life of her son.
Dean knows that the mother of Amber will never like him, and with that he has made his peace-after all, it was his best mate Colby who caused her son’s (also called Jai) death. It is the fact that Francesca is badmouthing Dean to his own son that really makes his blood boil, and the fact that, despite not being the best role model, she gets to spend so much time with Jai.
Yet, there has been very little that Dean can do about it so far. Amber has one card that she continues to play time and time again.
She just threatens to take Jai away forever whenever Dean tries to do anything she’s not totally on board with, like telling his mom about Jai.
This week, Amber’s mom’s next mis-step sends him over the edge. Dean is set to make a drastic move that could endanger his relationship with his son for good.
A brand new Home and Away promo shows him taking his son away from Summer Bay, leaving Amber panicking without telling anyone.
The trailer, which previews episodes that air in Australia this week, begins with happier times. We see a shot of Jai running toward Dean shouting “Daaaaaaaad” ecstatically, and one of Jai and Dean at Jai’s birthday party.
The two had a great time on his birthday, despite Francesca’s best efforts, and Jai was over the moon with the bike his dad bought him.
We hear Dean say, “The only thing that matters to me right now is my son.”
It is not long before the trailer takes a darker twist, though.
We see a preview of an upcoming scene after a voiceover of “A devoted dad would do anything for his son”. Dean, almost at the point of tears, is seen on the phone begging Amber, “Don’t take Jai away from me.” Please, please.
It looks like there is going to be something else that causes Amber to threaten to take his son out of his life. Yet, Dean turns the tables on Amber in a dramatic twist and runs away with the kid himself.
We see Dean driving up to a house in the next clip, presumably that of Amber’s mum, to find Jai playing on his own outside.
Apparently, no one else is around, and when Dean asks Jai, “How long have you been waiting alone here,” his son just shrugs his shoulders and tells him that he doesn’t know.
Dean couldn’t believe that. Jai was left in the care of Francesca, yet she left him all alone. Could anything have happened! Dean turns back to his car and knows what he has to do all of a sudden.
“The next thing we see, Dean bundles little Jai into the back of his car, responding to his question of where the pair are going,” I don’t know yet, but it’s going to be fun It looks like they are set to go on a road trip, and Summer Bay seems unlikely to be on their stop list.
It doesn’t take Amber long to find out what he did. We see her saying “Dean took Jai, and I can’t find him” to somebody at the Surf Club.
She ‘s clearly much more frantic in a later scene. “My son is missing,” she shouts, “I want my little boy back!” at someone off-screen. “.
“Questions from the voiceover” Has he gone too far? ‘, as we see a wide-eyed Dean outside the house, probably wondering if he’s really going to run away with his own son.
How long Dean and Jai have been fleeing for is not yet known. Thursday sees a triple bill of episodes, and the episode synopses released tease that “Dean makes a rash decision” in the first episode as he bundles him into his car.
As “Dean and Jai are missing,” it’s in the second that things really kick off, suggesting that Amber finally remembers having a son and goes to check up on him to find him gone.
“Amber fears for her son” in Thursday’s third episode, suggesting he is still missing as the episodes of the week draw to a close.
Yet the summary of the episode also indicates that in the third episode, “Colby bares the brunt of Dean’s anger.” This might suggest that before the week is up, Dean returns to Summer Bay and takes his anger out on his old best friend for his role in making his and Amber ‘s situation overly complicated. Or maybe anger simply comes in the form of a phone call, with Jai missing next week?
Either way, when they return, Amber is not going to be happy!
How’s she going to respond? When Dean tells her that he found Jai all alone outside the house, is it going to make her realize that her mother is not a good caregiver, and that Jai is better off spending more time with Dean? Or is she going to fly off the handle and cut Dean for good out of his son’s life?
And if so, will Colby be blamed by Dean?
The anger of Dean against Colby is very much justified. It all began about five years ago, when Dean, Colby, and Jai the Elder (Amber ‘s brother; Francesca ‘s son) went after Ross Nixon, trying to stop him from taking Michelle, Colby ‘s mother, and Bella’s half-sister out of town.
When Dean arrived in Summer Bay, he was stunned to find his old River Boy mate working as a cop. It took him months to forgive Colby for landing him in prison, but the two eventually made up and their best friendship was restored.

Then, years later, Ross was hunted down by Colby, who went on to kidnap Willow, Bella and Chelsea. When Dean and Colby rescued the girls and caught up with him, Colby shot Ross, burying the body in the woods with the pair of them and keeping it a secret for over 18 months.
The secret ended up costing Dean the relationship Ziggy had with him. Now that Francesca is on the scene, the involvement of Colby in the death of Jai Senior might end up costing Dean his relationship with his son. Will their frayed relationship end up being their downfall, with Angelo hot on their heels as he continues to investigate Ross ‘s death?
Over the next few days, these scenes will air in Australia, and will air in the UK a month later,
