Home and Away Mackenzie Booth star Emily Weir has often spoken out about her previous battle with alcohol addiction as she admitted “being open” is the best way to be
The star of Home and Away, Emily Weir, has never shied away from discussing her own battles with alcoholism, which led her to “self-medicate with red wine.”
Prior to being cast as Mackenzie Booth in 2019, the 33-year-old struggled with “crippling anxiety” and turned to drink for solace. This started when Emily experienced panic attacks in her teenage years and thought she had no other option but to cope.
She also turned to drinking as a coping strategy in her early 20s due to the agony of her parents’ divorce. Since “being open” is the finest attitude to have in life, the soap opera star frequently discusses her struggle with addiction in order to spread awareness.
“I am in pursuit of the truth. Being open is the way I operate.” she told PerthNow last year. “There is a thin line between secrecy and privacy and I constantly have to remember that.
“I learn about myself by being as honest as I can about my story,” the actress continued. My mother is the reason I owe it. My voice was always given to me. She claimed that because I ask a lot of questions, raising me was difficult.”
Through the support of Alcoholics Anonymous, Emily was able to make a complete recovery. Emily also gives credit to the solid network of people who surround her. “Life is a wild ride and you can’t really do it alone,” the celebrity continued.
“Reaching out is the best lesson I’ve learnt on my path to recovery. I’m not very good at asking for help. As I’ve become older, I’ve realized that’s the only path forward. Be as honest as you can. You can’t become that sick if you tell the truth. I think that to be true.”
Emily placed second on Dancing with the Stars the previous year. She acknowledged that participating in the US dancing competition provided her a confidence boost.
She explained: “In the past five years, I’ve learnt to set boundaries and be kinder to myself. I’m grateful to be in Home and Away and DWTS is one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
Emily, who is going into her fifth year on Home and Away, is still the show’s focal point. Mackenzie finds out that Felicity *Jacqui Purvis) has been lying to Tane (Ethan Browne) and is still taking her contraceptive pill on Tuesday’s episode (January 9).
When tensions between the two women escalate, Mackenzie decides to offer Felicity an ultimatum: either tell Tane the truth or she will. Felicity chooses to tell Tane the truth
