EastEnders spoilers: Daniel Cook dies in Tonight’s Episode.

Daniel Cook (Adrian Edmondson) enjoyed the little time he had left in the EastEnders company of soulmate Jean Slater (Gillian Wright). Still, that time finally came to an end during tonight's episode, when — upon learning that Jean got the all-clear — he passed away in incredibly emotional scenes on the famous bench.

Jean's appointment day came up during the episode tonight, but she wasn't that keen to attend. Nevertheless, both Daniel and Mo (Laila Morse) urged her to do so — with Mo deciding to go with her.
While there, when she heard that there are no more signs of cancer left, Jean received good news — meaning she's got the all-clear. Jean burst into tears, overcome with emotion, but her joy quickly became disrupted when she knew Daniel had nothing left to hold on to.

When they returned home, Jean lied to Daniel — telling him the hospital had messed up the appointment, so she would have to return in a couple of days — but Mo inadvertently revealed the truth, and Daniel was delighted.

The two of them walked out and sat on Arthur's (Bill Treacher) bench then went on to talk about death. Jean reckoned that when discussing such a subject, it's difficult for one not to get emotional and so— in an attempt to lighten the mood— Daniel began telling jokes. He revealed that he needed a hot chocolate, and Jean went off to acquire one on his behalf, but when she came back, he was still lying on the park bench.

She went on to sit down once more by his side and revealed that she wanted to live life to the fullest – to be the brave Jean – before claiming that he was the love of her life. When she turned to look at him, she remembered that he was gone and, as a result, burst into tears.
