Coronation Street star Melanie Hill reveals plans for when soap resumes filming

Coronation Street star Melanie Hill revealed the bosses’ plans for the soap to be filmed again. .The actress — who portrays Cathy Matthews in the long-running ITV soap — said on the WTAF — A This Nation podcast: ‘We had a wonderful email… off the producers saying they’re all very hard at work, they’ve got brilliant ideas.’ ‘They’ve never stopped – they’re editing and trying to finish the episode, and trying to hit the running ground, which is so heartening to hear.


We all can’t wait to get back.’ ‘I know they’re hoping to keep groups of people filming when we go back as small as possible.’ So we have a great team of writers, and I’m sure they’re going to come up with some brilliant ideas.’ Corrie was forced to close down production last month in the amid of the Coronavirus pandemic and, in an attempt to ensure that both Emmerdale and fellow soap stay long on the screen.

The weekly transmissions were reduced from their usual six to three transmissions. The ITV spokesperson explained: ‘ITV has sadly decided to stop production of the soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale with effect from Monday 23 March. ‘We’ve been trying our best to continue shooting, while adhering to the Government’s new health guidelines, to ensure that all episodes of soaps are broadcast on ITV until at least the early summer.

‘However, the health and well-being of the production teams, the actors, the crew, and their families is of paramount importance to us, and we now feel the time has come to finish filming. We would like to thank our viewers for their encouragement and hope that they will continue to enjoy both soaps in the coming months.
