The producers of Coronation Street intend to highlight the good side of villain Damon Hay.
Since turning up late last year, when he quickly revealed himself to be drug lord Harvey’s brother and forced Harvey’s own son Jacob to run, Damon has grown to be one of the most feared individuals on the cobbles.
Damon’s crimes also included using the restaurant as the center of his drug empire, however producer Iain MacLeod stated this week on Loose Women that Damon isn’t all terrible.
The producer declared, “We came him in to throw the cat among the pigeons, and he’s certainly done that, I believe you’d agree.
“But over the coming months, we’ll be able to see that he has a different side to him. He has a heart, albeit I wouldn’t say he has a soft center.”
Nevertheless, the villain’s more sympathetic side won’t surface until after a choice he makes that will have a significant impact on Weatherfield.
After making a really, really major mistake, “he will try [to change] to try and turn his life around and go straight for a while,” he said.
“His decision to try to change his life will be influenced by a potential love interest. He’ll still be a bad boy, but a good kid gone bad may still be kind of hot, right?”
With his nasty brother Harvey just a prison phone call away, how can Damon be able to actually alter his life?
After roles in The Bill and Shameless, new cast member Ciarán Griffiths made his debut as Damon late last year.
