Coronation Street and Emmerdale cut their number of weekly episodes amid coronavirus crisis.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale are reducing their number of weekly episodes due to the coronavirus pandemic. Corrie broadcasts three episodes a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m.) while Emmerdale airs five weekly episodes (weekdays at 7 p.m.). Usually, both shows have six episodes a week. ITV revealed that the schedule changes would take effect on Monday, 30 March. This has already been announced that the soaps would be “scaling down location shooting” and filming with reduced numbers of casts and staff. “The continued transmission of both soaps is a priority for all of us at ITV and our audiences who enjoy the shows,” ITV said.

“While thoughtfully adhering to the latest health advice from the Government and Public Health England, our production teams are continuing to shoot episodes in Manchester and Leeds.’ With this shift in transmitting habits, we’ll have great new episodes of soap running every weekday night until at least the early summer.
“Since Monday, March 30, Coronation Street and Emmerdale’s schedule pattern will change due to the coronavirus pandemic. Emmerdale will be airing Monday to Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Coronation Street Monday Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 p.m.”

Kevin Lygo, ITV Director of Tv, added: “Coronation Street and Emmerdale are Britain’s two most popular soaps with millions following both programs.’ The new health advice from the Government and Public Health England makes filming both shows a real challenge–particularly for casts and crew members who are over 70 who have chronic health problems. “With a mix of improvements in production and schedule, we are assured that we will keep airing new episodes of both shows in the coming months.” On the production front, we’re filming with less cast and crew, so we’re scaling back shooting while adhering to the government guidelines. ITV’s decision comes after the BBC confirmed that EastEnders will be limited to two weekly episodes (Mondays 8:00 p.m. and Tuesdays 7:30 p.m.) while all of the BBC’s continuing series delayed filming.
