Now that it’s out of the way, the question becomes who owns the corpse.

Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright), the town’s newest senior detective, receives an ID that sends shockwaves across the Bay — it’s none other than Susie McAllister!

It turns out that while Leah and John had been searching for Susie for weeks, she had been there in front of their eyes the entire time.

The question now becomes, “Who killed Susie?” as the body is removed from the river and transported in the back of an ambulance.

Cash may be new in town, but it doesn’t take him long to figure out that in her short months in the area, she’s made a lot of enemies. He believes one of the town’s people murdered her, and he’s on a mission to find out who!

“I got the impression from that cop that we’re all under fire,” Leah adds (Ada Nicodemou). And she is correct. A number of Summer Bay people are brought into Yabbie Creek Police Station for interrogation as the week progresses.

John Palmer (Shane Withington)

Cash is the first to arrive at the Yabbie Creek Police Station, and he wants to know why he allowed Susie move in with him after just a few weeks of knowing her.

John admits to being duped.

Cash wonders aloud, “That must hurt?”

John, who wears his heart on his sleeve, says, “Damn near killed me.”

He reveals to Cash that he just texted Susie the other day and that she wants to meet. However, when the new officer explains how long Susie has been dead, John is taken aback. “Whoever you were messaging, it wasn’t her!” given how long the corpse had been in the water.

Even Maz acknowledges that John’s motivation was sound: “she destroyed his heart and took all his money.”

Justin Morgan (James Stewart)

“I’m not going to cry over her,” says the narrator.

When Justin’s true identity is exposed, these are his first remarks to Cash. Cash isn’t convinced of his innocence by his remarks, and the new officer shows up at the Morgan residence soon after.

He shows there just in the thick of another fight between Leah and Justin, this time over his medicine.

“I was hoping to speak with you about Susie McAllister down at the station,” he says, as Justin runs straight for the door, eager to join him. But it’s not only Justin he’s looking for; he also wants to question Leah (Ada Nicodemou)!

Leah Patterson (Ada Nicodemou)

As he searches for information on his main suspect in the interview room, he double-checks that everything is well at home, asking Leah whether Justin ever loses his cool.

Moving on to Susie, he expresses his astonishment at Leah’s Scam Stop investigations, remarking that most people leave the investigations to the police, and that it feels personal to her.

She adds that their lives were wonderful until Susie came along, and then everything went apart. Is Cash concerned that she is too involved, and hence a suspect?

Justin tries to keep his emotions in check when it’s his time. He makes it plain to Cash that he isn’t very upset over Susie’s death. He didn’t want Leah looking into things because he was afraid she’d end up in danger – but Cash is probably thinking he didn’t want her looking into things since she’d find out he’d already gotten to Susie first.

Justin is taken aback when the topic of his medicine is brought up. It appears that Leah has revealed more to the cop than Justin would want. “Are there any negative effects from the pain? Aggression? “Do you have a short fuse?”

“Dear Mr Morgan, I’ve only been here for a week. I’ve arrested you for assault at that period. Your own sister had you locked up for the night, and days later a body of a lady you freely acknowledge you despise washes up on the beach.”

Justin recognises that things aren’t going well for him. “If you want to keep questioning me, you should do it with a lawyer present.”

Justin appears to be the main suspect. Is he the one who did it?

Marilyn Chambers (Emily Symons)

Marilyn isn’t immune to the enquiry.

Her and John’s divorce, as well as her strained relationship with Susie, give her reason to desire to get rid of her. Did her portrayal as a vengeful ex-girlfriend lead her to act in an out-of-character manner?

Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger)

Irene, on the other hand, is the target of Cash’s suspicions. She’s excited to visit the station, but the constable’s remarks catch her off guard.

Cash makes it apparent to her that she has one of the most tumultuous pasts among Summer Bay’s present residents. He tells her that this isn’t the first time she’s been involved in a severe crime. “Tell me about Thomas O’Reilly,” says the narrator.

Tommy had been speaking with Bella online for a while, and Irene had him admitted to the hospital when he showed up at her house and began getting too close to her. Despite the fact that Irene was cleared after being discovered to be protecting Bella, Cash has his doubts – “it might be claimed you were defending your pals in this instance as well.”

She has a strong motivation, and her history may reveal a pattern of behaviour. Three of the victims are her friends: Leah, John, and Justin, and that’s before the several run-ins she had with Susie, the chloroform attack, and her “claimed” attempt to spike her.

“At the end of the day, you had a lot of reasons to want her out of the picture.”

Cash confirms that she is an official suspect by informing her that he would be forwarding all of her information to the homicide investigation unit.

With so many of our Summer Bay favourites under investigation, the next few weeks are sure to be stressful as Senior Constable Cash Newman and the murder squad continue their search for answers. Was it actually one of them who did it?
