On Monday night, CORONATION STREET viewers were stunned to see the start of a drama-filled week unfold, with a massive sinkhole forming in Weatherfield during a terrible storm. As Leanne Battersby came face to face with Harvey Gaskell, her worst fears were realized.
In epic Coronation Street scenes, Harvey (Will Mellor) escaped prison, with terrible consequences for the Alahan family, whose car the prison van collided with. The criminal didn’t take long to locate down Leanne (Jane Danson), who was terrified to find herself alone in the middle of her darkest fear. Will, who recently spoke to Express.co.uk and other media outlets, hinted at what the horrific reunion would entail. It’s likely that Leanne will be kidnapped by the villain as he seeks vengeance in the most heinous way possible.
The ITV soap drug dealer is determined to go to any length to exact vengeance on those who put him in prison.
Will, the actor, explained: “Harvey is light and shade, especially with Leanne.
“He’s all movement, all the time, with a lot of dramatic stuff, and then there are these calm moments.
And I think he’s most scary at the calm moments, because he’s right in front of Leanne, and he could grab her at any moment.
“He likes to play with it, and it’s almost as if Harvey isn’t just trying to kill her; he’s trying to scare her.”
“And he also wants to kill some of their relatives while he’s there,” he added.
“It made all the difference,” Will said of the reduction of social separation, which made things simpler for the scenes. When you can get up close and personal with someone, there’s so much more of a threat; I mean, I do a lot of shouting.
And I try not to do it as frequently as I used to because I believe that yelling may weaken a character, and when you’re standing away from people, you have to make a stronger effort to establish your presence.
When you get really close to someone and get inside their ear and whisper to them, or when you can physically touch them, there’s something a lot scarier.
The threat of other things exists, and we looked into it. I told Jane, ‘We’re going to look into a few different things that aren’t in the screenplay, but will fill in the gaps between Harvey’s lines.’
So he’s getting near to her, stroking her face, or simply brushing her hair, and she flinches every time because she’s afraid he’s going to strangle her?
“I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? Is he going to try to strip her naked, to rape her?
“You never know what’s on Harvey’s mind at any given time.
“And he enjoys playing with emotions, as evidenced by the fact that he has her afraid in a corner.”
Will also added: “And he’s the type of narcissist that thinks like that. He appreciates it because he wants to win as the boss.”
When the unpredictable and dangerous criminal is alone with Leanne, he’ll almost certainly try to cause her as much pain as possible.
He could even attempt to kidnap her. Harvey will have the perfect opportunity to abduct Leanne while the other of the cobbles residents are preoccupied trying to survive the terrible sinkhole or a devastating automobile accident.
The serial stars also stated that the action-packed week’s ramifications would be long-lasting.
Iain MacLeod, the producer of Coronation Street, said about Harvey: “Nobody knows what he’s capable of or what he’s plotting since he’s on the loose.
“Then he’s placed against this extremely dramatic backdrop that we’ve built, and the ultimate result is, I believe, rather scary.
“So I’m really interested to see how people react when they realize what he’s going to do and what he’s planning.”
Harvey seems to think that killing his victims isn’t enough. He wants Leanne to be in pain, so it’s probable he’ll attack her before fleeing with her down the street.
Harvey would be punishing Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) by kidnapping Leanne, two individuals he also wants to get even with.
As Leanne’s stepson and sister, they would be devastated if she disappeared.
Will anyone be able to intervene and stop Harvey as the chaos in Weatherfield continues to unfold?
Coronation Street continues on Tuesday at 7.30 pm on ITV.
